Daruma is one of the Japanese lucky charm and is said to fulfill your wishes.

We often see it in the news what the elected lawmakers have.

It is sold with no eyes drawn, and when making a wish, draw the left eye, and when the wish is fulfilled, draw the right eye. This is called “目入れme i re” The order of the eyes may be reversed sometimes.

It was in the Edo period that Daruma dolls like today were made, and it was believed that the red color had an amulet effect.

Originally, most of them were red or white, but after the Showa period, them of various colors were made.

Each color has its own meaning, and you can choose a color that suits your wishes, such as white for relationships and prayers for success, black for business prosperity, green for health, and yellow for fortune.

The model of the Daruma doll is Bodhidharma, who traveled from India to China and introduced Buddhism and zazen. He is also said to be the founder of Zen Buddhism.

Things related to Daruma

▷だるま落とし（Daruma-otoshi）

It is a toy that stacks several cylinders under the daruma doll and hits them with a mallet so as not to knock the daruma down.

▷だるまさんが転んだ（Daruma-san ga koronda: Red light, Green light）

It’s a child’s play.
Decide on one Oni(it), and the Oni turns to the back and says, “Daruma-san ga koronda (Daruma-san has fallen)”.
In the meantime, other participants approach to touch the Oni, but when the Oni finishes saying “Daruma-san has fallen” and turns around, can not move.

▷雪だるま（Yuki-daruma: snowman）

It is a snow sculpture made by rolling snow. Most of them are made with two parts.

茶柱が立つ

だるまは日本にほんの縁起物えんぎもので、願ねがい事ごとを叶かなえてくれると言いわれています。

選挙せんきょで当選とうせんした議員ぎいんが持もっている姿すがたをニュースでよく見みます。

目めが描えがかれていない状態じょうたいで売うられており、願い事をする時ときにはだるまの左ひだり目を、願い事が叶ったら右みぎ目を描かき込こみます。これを目入めいれといいます。目入れの順番じゅんばんを逆ぎゃくにすることもあります。

現在げんざいのようなだるまが作つくられるようになったのは江戸えど時代じだいで、赤あかい色いろには魔除まよけの効果こうかがあると信しんじられていました。

元々もともとは赤や白しろのものが多おおかったですが、昭和しょうわ以降いこうには様々さまざまな色のだるまが作られました。

その色にはそれぞれ意味いみがあり、白は人間にんげん関係かんけいや合格ごうかく祈願きがん、黒くろは商売しょうばい繁盛はんじょう、緑みどりは健康けんこう、黄き色は金運きんうんなど、願い事に合あった色のだるまを選えらべます。

だるまのモデルはインドから中国ちゅうごくに渡わたり、仏教ぶっきょうや座禅ざぜんを伝つたえた達磨だるま大師たいしという人ひとです。禅宗ぜんしゅうの開祖かいそとも言いわれています。

▷だるま落おとし

だるまの下したにいくつかの円柱えんちゅうが重かさなっており、それをだるまが倒たおれないように木槌きづちで叩たたいて抜ぬく玩具がんぐです。

▷だるまさんが転ころんだ

子こどもの遊あそびです。

鬼おにを一人ひとり決きめ、鬼が後うしろを向むいて「だるまさんがころんだ」と唱となえます。その間あいだに他ほかの参加者さんかしゃはタッチするために鬼に近ちかづきますが、鬼が「だるまさんがころんだ」と唱え終おわり、こちらを向むいたら動うごいてはいけません。

▷雪ゆきだるま

雪を丸まるめて作られる雪像せつぞうです。2段だんのものが多おおいです。
